Faithful Women Encouraging Through the “Faithful Woman Newsletter”

In the Sower Spotlight

Each quarter the team at R16:16 is choosing to feature those within the brotherhood who are faithfully working to sow the seed of the kingdom. We do this in hopes of bringing into the spotlight those groups, organizations or businesses whose tireless efforts are seldom seen. Often these works are being maintained on shoe string budgets, yet those workers remain dedicated to seeing them through.

This quarter we are excited to share in the Sower Spotlight: Faithful Woman Newsletter.

Faithful Woman Newsletter (FWNL) is a quarterly printed and mailed newsletter with purpose of encouraging women everywhere in all walks of life: from teens to the widows, from the young in Christ to the mature Christian, both the lost and the saved.

The women of today’s world are inundated with images portraying how women should dress, act and look in order to receive worldly praise. The Bible says,

“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30)

It is the belief of the FWNL staff that women in the world today need to hear this message. Women need to know that to be truly beautiful, they must Love God more than the world and “adorn themselves with good works” (1 Tim 2:9-10).

In 2008, some women of the Lord’s church recognized a need to reach out to all women; to strengthen and encourage those in Christ and reach out to those who know not Christ and God’s great love for them. Thus, Faithful Woman Newsletter was passionately started by the women of Howe church of Christ in Howe, TX. They continue to write, edit, and publish the newsletter as they seek to glorify God and encourage the sisters. Faithful Woman Newsletter operates with a continuous 4 member staff, but has many women who are involved as writers.

Maybe you are thinking ‘Why print and not online?’ Amy from the FWNL staff answers this question.

“Simply put, even in our high technology world, there are still places that the printed word can go that the internet cannot. The printed word is longer lasting than the internet. While we try to encourage you today, it may be that years from now as someone digs through a box that we truly fulfill our goal of encouraging someone. The printed word can be more intimately shared than a quick email online article or text. As you pass on a copy of FWNL, the receiver feels that you have taken that extra step of reaching out to them. The printed word encourages you to take a break from the world. The texture and feel of the page, the opportunity to sit in a comfortable chair, the lack of noises and flashing give your body and mind a rest from the technology filled world. And lastly isn’t it fun and delightful to get something in the mail besides bills! But if you insist on using technology, we put in online for you too.”

How is it currently used?
The staff at FNWL has developed three ways to utilize Faithful Woman Newsletter.

The first way is to “Encourage”

It is simple to use in order to encourage women everywhere.
– mail to various individuals homes
– hand out to the women of specific congregations
– Hand out copies to those who come for ladies days
– give to the women of your congregation
-send to your missionary wives as encouragement
– and host online chats about the articles found in the newsletter

That brings us to the Second way to utilize Faithful Woman “Challenge.”

“Challenge” is a “chat about it” outreach program where a congregation challenges their women to utilize the one-on-one chatty nature of all women to share God’s love with someone they know.
– Share a copy and yearly subscription with a neighbor, friend or family member. Then chat with her about the articles in the newsletter as each new issue is mailed out. Use that chat time as a spring board for inviting them to worship and talking about deeper spiritual matters.

Finally another way to utilize FWNL is to “Reach.”
“Reach” is our most encompassing outreach program. This program helps put a positive face of your congregation in the minds of those around you and in your community.
-Saturation mailings in various communities and neighborhoods as an outreach of the congregation
– take to assisted living faculties and nursing homes
-leave in the waiting rooms of hospitals or the teacher’s lounge at schools
– use in women’s prison ministries
-Use in door knocking campaigns.

As you can see the women of Howe church of Christ in Howe Texas, are working diligently to spread the word and love of God into not only their community but to any congregation or individual who would seek to get involved. The Faithful Woman Newsletter is a free print publication, and as such you can subscribe and request as many copies as you would like. The staff will mail them to you and then you too can Encourage, Chat and Reach others who “know not Christ.”
How can you support FWNL?
1. Please pray for the FWNL staff and writers.

Amy says,

“Please pray for us. Because without the Lord’s guidance and help, our work is in vain.”

2. Become a writer. They are always looking for writers who will search the scriptures and then encourage others.
3. You as an individual can choose to support their work with a one time donation, or even a monthly donation with any amount you choose. You can contact the staff through their web page to find out further information about how/where to make donations.
4. Get your congregation involved. Consider which program would work best for you? What are some areas of ministry that you could utilize FWNL? Then contact the staff at FNWL and request your subscription.
5. How much does it cost?
Currently FWNL is FREE to readers because of generous support from various congregations and individuals.

Stop on over at the FWNL web site and take a look around. You can find past issues, some study aids for women at the very top of the page and some wonderful articles. Just a note: The FWNL page is still under construction, building a webpage takes time, so be patient. If you have a question or comment just click the Contact page. I’m sure the staff would love to hear from you, and receive a little encouragement as well. Oh, and don’t forget to tell them you found them at R16:16.

Like I said earlier, the encourager also needs encouragement! I plan to look into these ideas and to see about passing this around to dedicated people I know will respond.

John 4:35-38–Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
