A Princess Encourages Others While Waiting for Her Prince

05 Mar

Isn’t it great to come across young members of the Lord’s church who are passionate about influencing their peers to walk in His way? That’s exactly what Marli is doing with her blog Flip Flops, Camera Shots, and Happy Thots. She’s striving to help young ladies in their walk with Christ. Marli says about her blog,

“Today’s worldly temptations can make it very difficult to remain physically and mentally pure until marriage. Hopefully, my blog is a place where young women can come and to receive encouragement and inspiration on issues such as modesty, how to treat the opposite sex, recipes, pictures and a dose of amusement occasionally.”

Marli isn’t just talking the talk; she’s walking the walk and daily choosing to live as God desires her to, and in doing so she’s being an example to others through her life and her blog.

Marli is a country girl from Alabama who knows that she is the daughter of the King of Kings. Image courtesy of James Barker / FreeDigitalPhotos.netShe and her 2 siblings, a brother and a sister, were homeschool students from Kindergarten through high school and she is currently a senior of Amridge University where she is studying business administration. In her down time she enjoys her horses, running, blogging, photography and hanging out with her sister Memory. The two of them have put together a seminar for young women on Modesty & Purity which they have presented three times. Most recently to the girls from Boardtown church of Christ in Georgia while at Camp Watoga.

She also has a great eye for photography. She showcases many of her shots on her blog. Whether it’s family, friends or nature her expression is a modern twist on classic styling. With an eye for good framing Marli uses her photography to tell a picture story.

She credits her parents with the moral foundation which she stands upon. She says,

“I am thankful that they have taken the time and have put forth the effort to build our family on the moral and Christian principles that we are grounded on.”

Her dad is an elder with the Elmore church of Christ in Elmore, Al. She says that she is thankful for the leader and encourager that he is,

“We’re always the last to leave the church building because of daddy’s gift of encouragement.”

She appreciates her mom and the depiction she displays of what a submissive wife should look like. Marli shared that her mom is faithfully supporting her husband in all his endeavors and sticks close to his side as a supportive help-meet. Their example of a godly marriage and parentage is what has encouraged Marli the most in her endeavors to live a pure life. To that end, she has intentionally chosen to remain in their home until such a time as the Lord blesses her with a husband of her own. She is waiting patiently for God’s leading her to the prince for whom she is being prepared. She says,

“My main goal in life is to marry a Christian husband and have many children while being a stay-at-home mommy.”

That doesn’t mean that Marli is sitting around impatiently longing for that day either. No, she is instead seeking to study and learn how to best honor God while remaining single. This is exactly what she is doing on her blog, seeking to honor God while encouraging others to live a pure life as well. Some topics you will find there are her views on Modesty, choosing to live Joyfully at Home, Waiting on Him, godly Love Stories, Being Set Apart, and more. She encourages her readers to dress modestly and to turn away when modesty isn’t present. She displays godly character in her example to others and reminds her followers to seek His honor above their own. Marli says that most of her blog followers are girls but that there are a few guys too. She says that she hopes she is presenting them with,

“A blog where women could see God’s amazing purpose for their life. I have a few guys along for the adventure, but that’s okay. Guys need encouragement too.”

Marli is such an encourager that when reading her blog one might be reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul to Timothy found in 2 Timothy 2:20-22.

20 “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

She is seeking to spur other young Christians on to every good work. You can visit her blog “Flip Flops, Camera Shots and Happy Thot’s” and offer her some encouragement as well. If you know some young adults who could use a little spiritual inspiration, tell them about Marli and her blog. You can also follow Marli on Pinterest or on Instagram for all her “Camera Shots.” Let her know you found her blog at R16:16.

Marli, youe example is a beautiful one! Not only does your daddy have a gift for encouragement, but you have been blessed with that same talent. Thank you for reminding us that no matter what stage of life we are in we can share our faith with those we come in contact with. I love seeing the good stuff your sweet family does to encourage. You are beautiful from the inside out.
